Sirius have turned to 22-year-old Dutch striker Jesper Uneken as their new number nine following the departure of Robbie Ure. The club presented the player back in June, but he only became eligible when the transfer window opened in July and then suffered an injury setback.
After the sale of Robbie Ure, Sirius played several matches without a dedicated central striker. The team experimented with a false nine formation, but results were mixed. The attack often lacked penetration, leading to two consecutive goalless draws. Wing-back Isak Bjerkebo felt somewhat isolated in offensive situations without a focal point, such as in the match against Malmö FF. He did note, however, that the pace and energy increased significantly when substitutions were made during that game. "The team is on the right path and we should not get frustrated," Bjerkebo said.
Jesper Uneken has now recovered from his injury and even got playing time against Malmö FF. Isak Bjerkebo has received positive reports about his new teammate. "I have been told that he is very dangerous in the box," he says of the new Dutch colleague. Bjerkebo explains that he can almost shoot on chance and know Uneken will be there. The difference from Ure is that the former striker was more involved in build-up play. Bjerkebo says he needs to get to know Uneken better in that phase, but in the final third the partnership is straightforward. "It becomes easy for me, says Isak Bjerkebo."
Sirius enter this phase of the season from a position of great strength. The team leads the Allsvenskan with 42 points from 19 matches played. Statistics as of September 6, 2026 show 13 wins, 3 draws, and 3 losses. Sirius have scored 47 goals and conceded 27, giving them a goal difference of +20. Their lead over second-placed Hammarby FF is a full six points. Recent form has been a bit patchy, however, with the latest sequence reading loss, loss, loss, draw, and win.
The next challenge for Sirius is an away derby against Västerås SK, the so-called Arosderby. Following that, an important home fixture at Friends Arena awaits. Sirius host Degerfors IF on September 14. Degerfors currently sit in 14th place in the table. It will be another chance for Jesper Uneken to establish himself in the team's attack. Sirius's full fixtures list contains several decisive matches in the hunt for the title. The team's squad has now received an important offensive boost with Uneken's return.
