IK Sirius have completed the signing of young offensive talent Åke Andersson from IFK Norrköping. The 19-year-old player has signed a contract running until the summer of 2031.
Åke Andersson, described as a creative player who can operate as both a number 9 and a number 10, joins a club currently leading the Allsvenskan. Sirius sit in first place with 42 points from 19 games, six points clear of second-placed Hammarby FF. The team has scored 47 goals and conceded 27 so far this season.
Åke Andersson is 19 years old and already has top-flight experience. Last season he played 17 Allsvenskan matches for IFK Norrköping, starting two of them. During the current season he has featured in the Superettan, making five appearances. Sirius manager Jonathan Ederström sees great potential in the young player.
"We see a great untapped potential in Åke as a player", says Ederström. "He combines technique and game understanding in a good way and also has promising physical conditions for his age."
For Åke Andersson himself, the decision was straightforward. "It feels very good. Sirius is a big and fine club, so I am both happy and proud to get to come here", he told the club's website. "I know it's a club that has done well in recent years and is good at developing young players."
He looks forward to getting to know the team, the club, and the city of Uppsala. With Sirius's top position in the standings, he joins a club with high ambition.
Sirius's management and coaching staff see Andersson as an offensive, creative force who can contribute to the attack over time. With his technical skills and game intelligence, he is assessed to have the potential to develop into an important player. The manager has noted, however, that an adaptation period may be needed during the autumn, especially considering the role as a number 9 and the high tempo of the Allsvenskan.
The club's current offensive options can be viewed on our squad page. Sirius's recent form has been uneven with a run of three losses, one draw, and one win (LLLDW) in their last five matches, despite their overall table position.
Sirius's next match is a home game against Degerfors IF on September 14th. Degerfors are currently in 14th place in the table. It is a match where Sirius, as the home team, will be heavy favorites to take three points and strengthen their lead further. All upcoming matches can be followed on our fixtures page. Åke Andersson's contract with IK Sirius is valid until the summer of 2031.
