Sirius Football secured an important 1-0 victory over Västerås SK at the Hitachi Energy Arena, ending a run of three consecutive defeats. The match was interrupted for 17 minutes in the second half after a firecracker was thrown from the home supporters' section.

The win keeps Sirius at the top of the Allsvenskan table, leading by six points over Hammarby FF. With 42 points from 19 games and a +20 goal difference, the team is in strong form ahead of their next home fixture against Degerfors IF on September 14th.

In the 73rd minute of play, with the clock showing 72.40, the referee was forced to halt the game. A firecracker had been thrown from the Västerås supporters' area. Match delegate Kristoffer Löfberg stated that measures were taken, including unmasking and additional resources directed at the section. Västerås club chief Robin Hals made the decision to unmask before play resumed.

"I think it benefits us more. They want to get out and run, they are stressed. We handle it better," said Sirius player Isak Bjerkebo about the pause. The match resumed at 19:23, after exactly 17 minutes of stoppage. Sirius's backline held firm against a Västerås side pushing for an equalizer.

Jesper Uneken was the hero for Sirius when he scored his first goal for the club in the second half. It proved to be the only and decisive goal of the match. Uneken has now contributed to the team's impressive tally of 47 goals scored this season. His development can be followed more closely on our stats page.

Västerås had a major chance to equalize immediately after the restart. In the 73rd minute, Axel Taonsa assisted Abdelrahman Boudah, but the opportunity was saved. Simon Gefvert of VSK expressed disappointment at losing a home derby. "It's the end of the match, you feel the muscles more… it's not optimal. It's never optimal," he said.

Robin Hals, the club chief of Västerås SK, was clear in his disapproval. He said he took the decision to unmask and that he does not want such incidents at their matches. Hals added that there had been a number of previous incidents and that he was very disappointed in his supporters.

The decision to resume the match after the interruption was not controversial, but it left a bitter aftertaste. UNT reported that the firecracker came from the home section at Hitachi Energy Arena. The incident will likely be discussed further among supporters and by the disciplinary committee.

With the win secured, Sirius can focus on defending their lead in the Allsvenskan. The team now has the recent form LLLDW and wants to build on the positive feeling. The next challenge is a home fixture against Degerfors IF, who sit 14th in the table. This is an opportunity to further strengthen their top position before the season's final stretch.

The Sirius coaching staff will prepare thoroughly for the match on September 14th. All information about upcoming fixtures is available on our fixtures page. The team's objective is clear: to hold onto first place and secure the title.
